Can I Change My Health Plan Under Medicare?

After enrolling for Medicare, is it possible to switch between different healthcare plans? This is a question often asked by a lot of people. It should be noted that there are different Medicare plans available as mentioned below:

  1. Medicare Part A (hospital insurance): this covers the hospital care, limited home health services, hospice care and skilled nursing facility care
  2. Medicare Part B (medical insurance): this covers the supplies and services which are medically necessary to treat the health condition of the subscriber
  3. Medicare Part C: this gives the health insurance Florida companies owned by private individuals the room to offer Medicare benefits. This type of Medicare is known as Medicare Advantage Plan
  4. Medicare Part D: this provides the outpatient prescription drug coverage. This is provided solely by the insurance companies owned privately. The Government would never directly provide it.

Having known different Medicare plans, the question that comes next is if it is possible to change your plan. The answer to this question is yes. However, it should be noted that there are different requirements for different Medicare health plans. For example, if you want to drop Medicare Part B for Medicare Part A, you have to either:

  1. Contact the social security if you are enrolled in Medicare via the social security
  2. If you got enrolled automatically in Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B, you would be given a Medicare card. What you have to do is follow the instructions on the card and return it back. When you keep the card, you have to pay premiums for Part B.

If you want to switch to Medicare Part C when you are signed up for Medicare Part A and B, you have to:

    1. Be new to Medicare (the initial enrollment period)
    2. Be already enrolled in Medicare Part A and B
